Lake Garda with Relish
Lake Garda has always been a popular destination for travellers searching for a quiet and relaxing place where they could spend time on the shores of the lake. The lake is located in the North part of Italy close to the Alps that offer breathtaking sceneries especially when the sky is clear. I always tried to follow the footsteps of literates as they could spot the most outstanding places around the globe to find their inspiration to write poems and masterpieces that still delight us through their books. D.H. Lawrence description of Garda was, "as beautiful as the beginning of creation", and many other where spending their summer days in the villas that populate the coast. Goethe, Byron, Ibsen, Vladimir Nabokov and also Winston Churchill’s favoured resort, where he combined painting watercolours with journal-writing. We choose Desenzano del Garda as our docking on the lake, in a pleasurable sunny day of late October, combining the pleasure of summer with the lack of tourists that usually invade these coastal villages during high season. The highlight of our permanence was seeing swans in the lake approaching us, especially because my little son had a blast looking at them, apparently they were funny! Later we had lunch in one of the most renowned restaurant of the old marina, Ristorante Colomba, and continued our amble in the small roads of the city center. Overall a great experience to repeat, maybe in the summer when we'll be able to swim in the lake and go on a boat sightseeing adventure!
